Girls Who Code

January 2015 - May 2016

Girls Who Code is a national non-profit organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology. I was one of the volunteer instructors for Shreveport Memorial Library’s Girls Who Code club. I helped mentor groups girls, grades 6-12, in computer science.

Using the provided curriculum, the girls were taught the foundations of computer science using Scratch and Python. The groups ranged in size depending on the semester, between 10-20 students. The first set of students I taught learned Scratch, while the next set of students used Codesters, an online tool for learning basic Python.
